Hello, my bookish friends!
I was fixing my shelves in Goodreads a while ago when an idea came up into my mind. Why not share my 3-star (and below) rated books that have the average rating of 4-star (and above) in Goodreads? I didn’t think much about it then but right now I’m going to share these books from my Goodreads shelves. So without further adieu, here it goes!
ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS BY STEPHANIE PERKINS
Series: Anna and the French Kiss #1
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
I should have given this a 1-star rating had it not amused me to some extent. Some parts of this book were really entertaining. If it wasn’t because of my major issue about this book, I might have given it a 4-star. But damn, how can I rate a book so high when I can’t tolerate cheating?! That St. Clair was already cheating on Ellie. Well, I’m sorry if I’m putting my emotions out here BUT I really hate reading situations like that even though it’s really happening in reality.
My Rating: ★★☆☆☆
Goodreads Ave. Rating: 4.03 stars
MADE YOU UP BY STEPHANIE PERKINS
Series: Standalone
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
I can’t say that this book is accurate in terms of a mental illness called schizophrenia because I don’t have it and neither my friends or relatives. I first rated it with 5-star not until I realized that I didn’t really like it. The book is interesting and unique but it was really a heavy read for me (and not in a good way).
My Rating: ★★★☆☆
Goodreads Ave. Rating: 4.07 stars
ALEX, APPROXIMATELY BY STEPHANIE PERKINS
Series: Standalone
Genre: Young Adult, Contemporary, Romance
The flow and sequence of this book are interesting even though most of it was predictable. It is enjoyable to read and a good book for that matter but it is too predictable for my liking. I mean, there are a lot of books out there that are predictable too but I like them so much– this book just isn’t one of them. On the other hand, I’m planning reread it again to see if I just rated it low because I wasn’t in the ‘mood’ back then. Nevertheless, it is still a good book.
My Rating: ★★★☆☆
Goodreads Ave. Rating: 4.01 stars
UGLY LOVE BY COLLEEN HOOVER
Series: Standalone
Genre: New Adult, Contemporary, Romance
This is the second book I’ve read from Colleen Hoover. The first one is Confess. So, just like before, I have high hopes for this book because I loved the Confess. This book should have been a 4-star if not for the connection that I hadn’t felt between Tate and Miles. No woman should feel that she is objectified by a man who doesn’t know what he truly wants. Nevertheless, I love the ending and it made me lessen my bitterness towards Miles. Lol.
My Rating: ★★★☆☆
Goodreads Ave. Rating: 4.27 stars
LOVE & MISADVENTURE BY LANG LEAV
Series: Standalone
Genre: Poetry & Prose
I simply don’t understand the hype about this book. I didn’t love it as much as I love Lullabies. It seems like I am just reading some quotable posts in Tumblr way back in 2009 and the price of this book is so expensive!!! I mean, for a poetry book that has a lot of pages with a small number of lines, I cannot! I’m sure there is a lot of really good poetry books out there that you can buy at a reasonable price. Sadly and honestly, this book didn’t spark joy like Lullabies did.
My Rating: ★★★☆☆
Goodreads Ave. Rating: 4.01 stars
BETSY’S BUSY SUMMER BY CAROLYN HAYWOOD
Series: Betsy #7
Genre: Children, Action & Adventure
I only have a vague memory of the story of this book. It was one of the books from my childhood that I can’t remember anymore or maybe it wasn’t really that memorable for me. Also, by the time I finally figured out how to use Goodreads, I couldn’t reread it anymore because I already gave it for a book drive activity in college where we donate old books to public schools. I should have given this book a 2-star or 1-star for the reason of not remembering it anymore but I thought I should give this book a benefit of the doubt. I was being unfair and I know my reason was irrational that was why I rated it with 3-star.
Further, my dad bought me a physical copy of this book when I was in grade school because according to him, he passed by a bookstore that has an ongoing sale. He remembered me instantly because he knew how much I love reading and writing stories back then. He doesn’t even know any current children’s book during that time and he said, he just decided to buy this book because of the cover. Now, you know where I got my habit of buying books because of the cover. Lol.
My Rating: ★★★☆☆

MARRIED TO THE PRINCE OF DARKNESS BY ANGELTWIST
Series: Chains of Honor #1
Genre: Paranormal, Mystery, Romance
I have read this book on Wattpad– back when Wattpad was so hype and popular in our school. It wasn’t my “cup of tea” but I was so interested because of the vampire theme. Remember when Twilight was released? Back then, I really thought that it was a great book and movie BECAUSE it was the first book series that I’ve read about vampires! I still cringe whenever I remember my teenager self going crazy over Twilight.
My Rating: ★★★☆☆

This is such a great post idea! I personally love Anna and the French Kiss, but I 100% agree with everything you said. After rereading it a couple of times since I first read it in highschool, the cheating part bothers me
